Why it matters...
"It's easy to make a buck. It's a lot tougher to make a difference."
- Tom Brokaw
I met Margriet Charlton, a native of the Netherlands, on Aug. 3, 2015 when she came by my office to tell me about her harrowing experience as a hostage in the 1990 Invasion of Kuwait. "25 years after Kuwait invasion, Mills River woman shares story of survival" was published the next day. Afterwards, Charlton wrote a very touching letter to my editor.
I'm lucky to have co-workers and bosses, who send me words of encouragement. In this note, Charli was telling me about how she liked my story, "Family of woman killed by driver on beach plans vigil" published June 21, 2015.
Murder trials can be daunting and this week-and-a-half-long trial was no exception: "McGraw found guilty of first-degree murder" published on June 5, 2014. Five days later, a letter to the editor in the Times-News thanked me for the coverage.
Benjamin Beasley, president of the Hendersonville Second Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, wrote a very touching letter that published in the Times-News' Word of Thanks on Sept. 20, 2012, for a story I wrote on the church: "Hendersonville Mormons continue growth" published Sept. 8, 2012.
